Lugano - Nicknamed the "Monte Carlo of Switzerland"
Lugano is a town and a municipality in southern Switzerland in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino bordering Italy. The ninth largest Swiss town, it is the largest in Ticino and largest with an Italian speaking majority outside of Italy.
Lugano is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Switzerland. The town is home to a number of historic buildings and museums, whilst the surrounding area has many natural sights.
By far the main attraction of Lugano is its beautiful, eponymous lake, which measures 50 square kilometers in size. The climate, which is a colder version of a typical Mediterranean climate, allows temperate trees to grow alongside citrus and cypress trees.
With a magnificent vista over Lugano, Monte Brè is Lugano’s closest mountain and it can be reached via funicular rail. From Monte Brè there is a walk down to the village of Brè, which has preserved its typical Ticino village center and enhanced it with works of art.
Both Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains provide a wide variety of outdoor activities. The area surrounding Lugano is home to over 300 kilometers of mountain biking trails, the largest network of trails in Switzerland.
With so much to see and do, Lugano is sure to astound and awe visitors with its amazing displays of pristine nature, delightful churches, and pretty parks.
