Visiting Monte Bre' is really a must!
Monte Brè (925 m) is a small mountain east of Lugano on the flank of Monte Boglia (1,516 m) with a view of the bay of Lugano and the Pennine Alps and the Bernese Alps. It is considered one of the sunniest points in Switzerland.
The village of Brè lies on the eastern slope of Monte Brè and is connected to Lugano by bus service. The village shows the typical Ticinese architectural style.
You can reach the village of Bré from the summit by a wonderful path through the woods. It has kept intact its characteristic of ancient rural village and has been embellished with numerous artworks.
In about twenty minutes the funicular brings you from Lugano-Cassarate to the summit of Monte Brè going through the villages of Suvigliana, Albonago, Aldesago, and Brè, all very sought-after panoramic residential areas because of their privileged location.
If you drive to the summit, be prepared for many twists and curves, and be ready to stop for other cars, as the roads are very narrow.
Mountain bikes are available for hire near the cable car station at the summit, providing an opportunity to explore Monte Brè’s numerous points of interest with pedal power.
There are also several restaurants with panoramic terraces offering a superb view of the Lake of Lugano and of the surrounding mountains.
