Visit Saas Fee for an amazing winter holiday in Switzerland
Did you know that you can even ski on the glaciers of Saas-Fee in the summer? That’s why most of the world’s skiing teams train here.
Saas-Fee is the village situated on a high mountain plateau at 1,800 meters, surrounded by a total of 13 peaks above 4,000 meters which is the most in the Alps, forming the basis for its nickname the Pearl of the Alps.
It is the main village in the Saastal, or the Saas Valley, and is a municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
With old wooden chalets and granaries, Saas-Fee is a village with real history and has been adapted to the needs of modern winter sports fans. Although Saas-Fee has successfully retained its traditional charm, it is also at the cutting edge, particularly with its mountain infrastructure.
The highest funicular in the world goes to Mittelallalin, at an altitude of 3,445 meters, with the highest ice pavilion in the world. The Freestyle Park is a mini-paradise for snowboarders and freeskiers.
The high elevation of the slopes, topping out at 3,500 meters, ensures snow-sure pistes and a long ski season that extends well into April. Most of the 100 kilometers of runs are suited to intermediate skiers (45%) and beginners (30%).
Saas-Fee is the setting of the second part of André Gide's novel Les faux-monnayeurs, as well as the setting of various ski chase sequences in the On Her Majesty's Secret Service film (1969) in the James Bond series.
