Adelboden is a mountain village and a municipality in Switzerland, located in the Frutigen-Niedersimmental administrative district in the Bernese Highlands.
The relaxed holiday resort in the middle of the Bernese Alps is characterized by its village atmosphere. The main street is lined with shops, bars, and traditional hotels yet the main ski area doesn’t touch it.
Adelboden is the regular host of the FIS Ski World Cup every January and it is easy to see why. In winter, the snowy slopes open up a huge network of pistes plus cross-country skiing routes, tobogganing runs and its very own freeride arena.
It is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers. There are 23 kilometers of cross country ski trails at Adelboden. For snowboarders, there is a terrain park and 2 half pipes.
During the summer Adelboden's sheer beauty unfolds. When the snow recedes and the cows are led up the steep mountain paths to their summer pastures, the Alpine world takes on an entirely different form.
The green valleys beam with red and blue flowers and the village becomes a mecca for hikers.
There is 200 km (125 mi) of summer hiking trails, from sedate walks to alpine climbing routes. Numerous mountain railways lead up to the mountains. Additional activities are numerous mountain bike routes; and model aircraft construction on Hahnenmoospass with a workshop, and wind and landing opportunities.
