One of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland - Vierwaldstättersee
If your ideal holiday is filled with lake cruises, gentle hikes and long, leisurely lunches, then you'll be enchanted by Lucerne and the surrounding lake region.
Lake Lucerne is a lake in central Switzerland and the fourth largest in the country. The lake has a complicated shape, with several sharp bends and four arms.
The only way to get a sense of its shape and the drama of the scenery is from a boat. Kept in pristine shape, the steamboats’ engines churn below deck, while you relax on the sun deck and watch as the scene shifts around you.
There are many different boat trips available at the 38 km long Lake Lucerne. There are round trips from Lucerne to Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock that take less than an hour, and there are single trips from Lucerne to Flüelen that take close to 3 hours. Whatever you choose, a boat trip is a great way to enjoy the beautiful region at a slow pace.
Apart from its mountain viewpoints, the lake offers tucked-away resorts, all accessible by boat. The far eastern reach of Lake Lucerne – Lake Uri or Urnersee – is home to the Rütli Meadow, where the country was legendarily born.
Different sports are possible in some separate areas due to water and wind conditions. The lake is accessible from boat and yacht harbors to lake resorts and pools. Therefore the lake can be easily accessible from both shores.
There are about ten places where you can dive without a boat in Lake Lucerne. The water is rather chilly all year round and therefore mostly very clear.
